In Anticipation of Slightly Stoopid's 7th Annual Summer Tour "Kickin' Up Dust," An Interview with RyMo

Slightly Stoopid
July 11, 2013

Coming up this July and August 2013, Slightly Stoopid's 7th Annual Summer Tour continues the tradition of bringing together today's most lauded acts to entertain at outdoor amphitheaters across the country, including San Diego's very own Sleep Train Amphitheater on Saturday, July 20. This year, Slightly Stoopid teams up with renowned Minneapolis hip-hop collective, Atmosphere, for the "Kickin' Up Dust" Summer Tour 2013! Supporting acts will include The Budos Band, The Grouch & Eligh, and Tribal Seeds.  In anticipation of the tour, we interviewed Slightly Stoopid's drummer RyMo, a long time resident of America's Finest City!

In anticipation of his latest tour, RyMo sat down with SanDiegoVille and talks about Stoopidheads, San Diego, and facing adulthood as a band.

Does the band get especially amped up for San Diego shows?  Is San Diego home of your most diehard Stoopidheads?

Yeah definitely.  We have all of our friends and family at our hometown shows.  We really try and put on the best show possible for sure.  We love San Diego and are proud to rep it everywhere we go.  San Diego is our home so naturally we have Stoopidheads that have been coming to shows since like 1995.  We have an older following here for sure.

You've been in San Diego for over 20 years now.  What's your favorite thing about San Diego?  What's your favorite neighborhood?  What's your favorite food place?  You've been all over the world, what about internationally - your other favorite city?

I love San Diego for many reasons.  We have the best weather, beaches, surf, Mexican food, a diverse culture, etc.  It is a place where you can be outside doing stuff and be active almost 365 days a year.  I have lived all over the county over the last twenty years.  Our favorite place is O.B./Point Loma area because that's where the band got it's start.  O.B. has style.

What is the most vivid change in the band now that you all are all grown up with wives and babies?

We are all focused on doing the best we can night after night while on tour, and recording great music while at home.  We all have separate lives now and our priorities have shifted now versus 10 years ago.  Babies, mortgages, weddings will do that.

Favorite San Diego venue and why? What about in Ocean Beach in particular?

I have a few, and like 'em for different reasons.  I'm gonna say that the Belly Up in Solana Beach and Winston's in O.B. are my two faves.  They are also the two I've played the most over the last twenty years.

Thanks RyMo! We look forward to the summer tour and catching some Slightly Stoopid at Winston's!  Hitting 28 cities, the "Kickin' Up Dust" tour is guaranteed to create a trailblazing summer soundtrack, and a noteworthy rite of passage for summertime concert-goers.  The tour comes on the heels of Slightly Stoopid's hugely successful album, Top Of The World, and the release of the new live album recorded at Bob Weir's TRI Studios, Slightly Stoopid & Friends: Live at Roberto's TRI Studios. Atmosphere tours in support of their latest album, The Family Sign.
