Union Bank and the San Diego Chargers Kick Off Game Changers Program to Score Big with Local Charities and Fans | Begins Sunday, Sept. 29

September 27, 2013

As part of its commitment to responsible banking and supporting the San Diego community, Union Bank has partnered with the San Diego Chargers to raise funds for local charities over the course of the Chargers 2013 regular season. Titled “Game Changers,” the fundraising program is part of Union Bank’s ongoing sponsorship of the San Diego Chargers and will benefit programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego, the Armed Services YMCA San Diego and the San Diego Center for Children. As part of the program, attendees will have the chance to win fan prizes, including ticket upgrades, backpacks, merchandise discounts and signed San Diego Chargers memorabilia.

Kicking off outside Qualcomm Stadium before the September 29 game against the Dallas Cowboys, Game Changers invites fans at Chargers home games to gather their loose change and dollar bills and donate to the Game Changers' Change Mobile, a one-of-a-kind vehicle that can process and tabulate money donated on-the-spot, for a fun, interactive fundraising activity.

“The core of Union Bank’s partnership with the San Diego Chargers is the spirit of working together as a team, including our employees, customers and the local community, to help improve San Diego and accomplish great things for our city,” said Union Bank Senior Vice President and Regional Executive Lawrence Henry.  “The Game Changers program encourages those in the San Diego community to embrace the spirit of giving back to children, families and members of our armed forces to help make a lasting change in their lives.”

Fans who choose to participate in Game Changers have a chance to win a variety of prizes that will boost their own Chargers experience – the Game Changers Change Mobile comes stocked with fun goodies, such as koozies and football gear signed by Chargers players, including Philip Rivers and Malcom Floyd.  Fans will also have opportunities to win upgraded seats to watch the Chargers play that very day.

“While many people admire the Chargers for what they do, the generosity our fans will extend through the Game Changers program will make them the ones to admire,” said Executive Vice President and CEO of the San Diego Chargers A.G. Spanos.  “This program also offers our fans a chance to win Chargers souvenirs and an even more memorable experience that would bring them closer to the game.”

Over the course of the season, Union Bank and the Chargers have pledged to match all donations up to $11,000.  Funds raised will be distributed evenly amongst the three charities at the conclusion of the Chargers’ regular season.  The Game Changers Change Mobile will be found driving around the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot before home games for the remainder of the 2013 regular season.
