The Neighborhood House Association (NHA) is celebrating 100 years of service throughout 2014, and as part of the celebration, is commemorating a century of building healthy families and communities by hosting a culinary demonstration and charity fundraiser. Celebrity chefs from around San Diego will join NHA in its efforts to promote healthy eating habits and highlight the NHA innovative and award winning approach to child nutrition. The event will take place Sunday, March 23 from 1-5pm at the NHA Central Kitchen located at 1929 Hancock St. San Diego, CA 92110.
Celebrity chefs confirmed to participate include: Javier Plascencia of Romesco's Mexiterranean and Tijuana's Misión19, Bernard Guillas of the Marine Room, Andrew Spurgin of Bespoke Event Styling & Menu Design, Deborah Scott from the Cohn Restaurant Group, and Chad White of Plancha Baja Med, La Justina in Tijuana and Craft Pizza.
“I was dumbstruck by the sheer volume of quality healthy meals that NHA provides for our community in need,” states Andrew Spurgin, owner of Bespoke Event Styling & Menu Design. “It’s a joy for us all to lend a hand and help support such a great cause.”
In 2012, NHA and its nutrition menu were recognized by the First Lady Michelle Obama Let’s Move! Child Care Initiative.

NHA was selected for carrying out exceptional work to promote and implement the goals of Let’s Move! Child Care, including using creative strategies, engaging families in obesity prevention efforts, and overcoming challenges to get children moving and encourage healthy eating in the early care and education setting.
Today, NHA is one of the largest multi-purpose human services organization in San Diego County, providing up to 6,000 meals for children, families, seniors and youth each day.

Those in attendance will be experience a diverse showcase of tastes from some of San Diego finest Restaurants and Caterers. The multifaceted event will embrace NHA’s innovative approach to child nutrition and feature items from the NHA nutrition menu. In addition, participating chefs will be hosting cooking demonstrations and sharing their culinary secrets as the chef’s share their passion and talents.
