Marina Kitchen Unveils Specialty Bourbon Cocktails After Months of Aging in a Charred Oak Barrel

April 9, 2014

After three months of aging in a charred oak barrel, Marina Kitchen at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina will introduce specialty Manhattans and Old Fashioneds created from its barrel-aged bourbon. The drinks will be unveiled on Friday, April 11, beginning at 5pm at the Marina Kitchen bar.

The bourbon has been aged for three months to create a one-of-a-kind Manhattan and Old Fashioned. Allowing the bourbon to age unleashes heightened flavors and allows the ingredients to fully integrate in ways not otherwise possible with fresh mixing. The charred oak barrel imparts a smoothness with notes of vanilla, dill and a subtle spice.

When it comes to the aging process, Michael Miller, Marina Kitchen’s General Manager says, "We’re excited to reveal these new cocktails to create a highly unique tasting experience for bourbon lovers in San Diego. Drinks like an Old Fashioned and Manhattan may be classics, but through our barrel aging program, we are able to deliver a truly different and wonderfully unique flavor. It’s not your average bourbon beverage,” said Miller.

Guests may sample tasting sizes of either cocktail for $4 or purchase a full-sized version for $14. Additionally, guests will receive a complimentary order of Marina Kitchen’s Maple-Lacquered Candy Bacon by mentioning and tagging Marina Kitchen on social media. The Manhattan and Old Fashioned will live on the Marina Kitchen beverage menu as long as supplies last. This rare opportunity to sample aged bourbon ends when the barrel is empty.

The Drinks:

Manhattan- Bulleit Rye Whiskey with Caprano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth and Angostura aromatic bitters in charred American oak barrels

Old Fashioned- Bulleit Bourbon with a splash of sugar water and dash of bitters in charred American oak barrels.
