Incoming Eatery - Crew Behind Whisknladle and PrepKitchen to Open Catania in 2015

May 26, 2014

The team behind La Jolla’s popular Whisknladle as well as three thriving Prepkitchen locations has just announced their newest concept, Catania, an Italian Coastal restaurant, set to open in La Jolla in early 2015. The 3,750-square-foot restaurant will be located on the top floor of the La Plaza building that’s currently under redevelopment at the corner of Wall Street and Girard in the building that formerly housed Jack’s La Jolla. The building at 7863 Girard Ave has sat almost completely vacant since Jack’s closed suddenly in July 2009, victim to a tough economy and an employee embezzlement scandal.
The concept is the vision of owner Arturo Kassel and Whisknladle Hospitality Executive Chef/Partner Ryan Johnston who were inspired six years ago by a two-week, 1,400 mile road trip throughout Italy. Bluemotif Architecture will put together the new space and help turn their vision into a reality.
