Little Italy’s FESTA Returns for 20th Year on Sunday, Oct. 12 | Annual Street Festival Features Food, Music, and Incredible Chalk Art

October 3, 2014

Little Italy’s FESTA returns for its 20th year on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 10am-6pm, and will feature food, live music, kids’ activities, stickball and bocce ball tournaments, cooking demonstrations, Gesso Italiano chalk art and so much more! This festival is one of the most-visited events in Little Italy, and one of San Diego’s most beloved neighborhood events. Put on annually by the Little Italy Association, it is expected that over 100,000 attendees will fill the streets of Little Italy during FESTA, celebrating their love of all things Italian

In 1994, a dream came to life. In the month of October, twenty years ago, the Little Italy community opened its streets to San Diego residents, and welcomed visitors from near and far. Today, over 120,000 people from all over San Diego and the world are expected to grace the streets of Little Italy for this year's FESTA - one of the largest Italian American festivals on the West Coast!

Gesso Italiano, or Italian chalk art, is one of the most iconic elements of FESTA. This year dozens of artists will line the streets, creating their own masterpieces on the asphalt streets. In honor of the 20th anniversary of this event, several artists are collaborating to create an oversized (20′x30′) chalk art piece that will depict a beautiful image of the Virgin Mary in stained glass, from Duomo di Milano, coordinated by Cecilia Linayao.

Watch your favorite Little Italy restaurant chefs create their specialty dishes during live cooking demos, as well as taking to the streets to serve food al fresco throughout the neighborhood, reflecting a wide variety of specialties.

Other activities at FESTA include a bocce ball tournament, stickball exhibition game, live music on multiple stage, grape stomp competitions, a Coppola Wines/Ballast Point Wine & Beer Garden, a Kids Area and a vintage Italian art exhibition
