Harvey Wallbanger Touches Down in San Diego for One of a Kind Bar Crawl | Wednesday, November 5

November 1, 2014

After a summer that saw Harvey Wallbanger surprise New Orleans in the world’s first cocktail flash mob at Tales of the Cocktail, Galliano L’Autentico announced that the iconic party animal will pull into San Diego in his trademark Golden Cadillac as part of the Harvey’s Homecoming five-city U.S. tour for an evening of disco decadence, where Mr. Wallbanger will continue to spread his cocktail legacy leading a themed San Diego bar crawl on November 5, from 6:30-11pm, at some of San Diego's hottest craft cocktail bars.

Bartenders from the participating crawl stops will put a spin on the classic Harvey Wallbanger cocktail, replacing vodka for whiskey, beer, etc to add a touch of local SoCal character to the recipe. The event is free and open to the public 21 and over, with drinks not included, unless you wear a 1970s outfit that is, then Wallbangers are on Harvey!

The bar crawl will take place on the following schedule on Wednesday, November 5: 6:30pm at Star Bar, 7:30pm at Fairweather, 9pm at Coin Op Game Room, 10pm at Sycamore Den. RSVP on event’s Facebook page to book a free seat on the crawl’s shuttle bus.

Harvey’s namesake cocktail of vodka, Galliano L’Autentico, and orange juice was a popular tipple in so-called “fern bars” throughout the 1960’s and ‘70s. Legend has it that the cocktail was named for a Manhattan Beach surf star who had a few too many after losing a surfing competition. His inability to leave the bar without stumbling into walls earned him a reputation and the nickname that inspired the drink. Today bartenders from coast to coast are rediscovering this simple, delicious and iconic cocktail. Appearing on cocktail menus around the country, both in its original form or with modern-day twists, the legend of Harvey continues.
