An Oscars Party And Chinese New Year Touch Down At Wang's North Park

February 11, 2015

Wang's North Park will host two exciting events this month, all in conjunction with their third anniversary!  The first is a Chinese New Year celebration on February 20, followed by an Old Hollywood-style Oscars viewing party on Sunday, February 22.

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Or Happy Chinese New Year! Also known as the Lunar New Year, the Chinese New Year starts on February 19. For the Chinese culture, this is one the most important traditional Chinese holidays celebrated every year and begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice. To celebrate, on February 20, San Diegans are invited to ring in Chinese New Year with Wang’s North Park, the largest Chinese restaurant in San Diego. And better yet, they’ll also be celebrating their third anniversary!

Free to the public, walk the red carpet into one of San Diego’s biggest events for the beginning of the Year of the Sheep. Sip on sake samples while munching on passed hors d’oeuvres of traditional “lucky” New Year’s dishes such as whole fish, noodles and dumplings. At 9pm, don’t be afraid when loud drum beats and cymbals begin. Traditional lion dancers (nope - those aren’t dragons!) are scheduled to perform, evicting the evil spirits away and ushering in a prosperous New Year. Dinner reservations will also be available all night for those wanting to continue the party.

Award season is almost over, but for those who want to experience the magic of Old Hollywood's hustle and bustle for the 87th Annual Academy Awards here in San Diego, Wang's North Park is hosting an Oscars viewing party the evening of Sunday, February 22.

San Diegans are invited to attend the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus Red Carpet Party for a night out with the stars - the stars of GALA choruses, that is. As one of the ten largest GALA (Gay and Lesbian Association) Choruses in the United States, the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus, a local non-profit, features 130 talented singers devoted to its mission statement, “To create a positive musical experience through exciting performances which engage our audiences, build community support and provide a dynamic force for social change.”

Tickets for the event are $35 per person and includes a buffet dinner, complimentary champagne, raffles and $500 in cash and prizes for ballot contest winners. Proceeds from the event will benefit the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and its mission of changing lives one voice at a time. Starting at 4pm, attendees are encouraged to dress up, walk the red carpet and pose for the cameras. Tickets are limited to 300 guests and can be purchased at RedCarpetParty.Org.
