URBN Coal Fired Pizza To Open Location In Downtown Encinitas

February 19, 2015

Having rooted his success in a simple, no-nonsense business model, San Diego restaurateur Jon Mangini has earned a reputation for taking risks on unexpected locations with his New Haven-style pizzeria concepts, including BASIC in East Village circa 2006, URBN Vista and his latest El Cajon expansion and brewery.  The approach has paid off as collectively, his multi-million dollar restaurant group has steadily increased revenue to further propel his staying power in San Diego. Next up, Encinitas! Mangini will open a fourth URBN Coal Fired Pizza location in North County, slated to open doors this March at the space formerly occupied by Encinitas Pizza Co.

“I’ve always had a soft spot for Encinitas,” says Jon Mangini, who recently moved to North County with his wife and children. “There’s a great community vibe and a lot of smaller independent businesses that cater to our similar clientele. We’re really excited to bring our vision of great food and beer to the coastal communities up north.”

Soon to be URBN Coal Fired Pizza Encinitas
Located on the historic Pacific Coast Highway, URBN Coal Fired Pizza Encinitas will mark Mangini’s first foray into the North County beach community and promises to be an exciting new addition to the area’s quickly growing dining scene. The 1,500 square foot space will undergo a design overhaul led by Mangini, and will incorporate the same signature warehouse-style design aesthetic synonymous with the URBN Restaurants brand. The menu will showcase their award-winning staple - oblong, thin crust, coal-fired pies reminiscent of the famous pizzerias found in New Haven, Connecticut. A choice of craft beers from the collective’s El Cajon brewery operation, URBN Brewing Co., will also be available alongside an extensive list of local and international brews.

With a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a knack for expanding into untapped markets, East coast transplant Mangini first launched BASIC Bar/Pizza in San Diego's then underdeveloped East Village in 2006. After receiving an overwhelming response, spin-off eateries URBN Coal Fired Pizza in Vista (2008), and North Park (2010) soon followed. URBN saw brand expansion yet again in 2014, this time in San Diego’s overlooked neighboring market of El Cajon. Taking up occupancy in the former El Cajon Brewing Company space, Mangini joined forces with Operating Partner Alex Carballo and Head Brewer/Partner Callaway Ryan (both formerly of Stone Brewing Co. pedigree), to launch his third outpost of URBN as well as URBN Brewing Co., the collective’s new in-house brewery operation.

URBN Coal Fired Pizza Encinitas will be located at 764 S Coast Hwy 101. For more information on URBN Restaurants, visit www.urbnrestaurants.com.
