Kitchen 4140 Continues Its Bountiful Beer Dinner | Chef Kurt Metzger To Host Michelin-Star-Studded Drew Deckman And North Coast Brewing On May 21

May 14, 2015

Farm-to-table restaurant Kitchen 4140 will join forces with Michelin-starred chef Drew Deckman of Baja California and North Coast Brewing Company of Mendocino County for the next installment of its craft beer dinner series on Thursday, May 21. Beginning at 6pm in the restaurant’s rustic wine room, this dinner will include five courses created by Kitchen 4140’s Chef Kurt Metzger and Deckman’s en el Mogor’s Chef Drew Deckman paired with craft beers from North Coast Brewing, whom many consider a pioneer of the craft brewing movement. We attended the last installment of Kitchen 4140's beer pairing series and were blown away by the meal. Read on for photos from the last dinner and all the details on the upcoming 5-course supper on May 21!

We participated in Kitchen 4140's last beer pairing dinner, entitled 'Steak & Strauss,' with Karl Strauss Brewing this past March. By 'participating,' I mean devoured seven incredible, steakhouse-style courses and as many pints as we could put down, including an earth-shattering steak-flavored beer brewed specially for the occasion. Frequently with beer pairing dinners, dishes are smaller portions as well as the beer pours, but at Kitchen 4140, we were given full portions for each course. Our dishes were as follows, each served with a pint or goblet of the paired beer:

Steak tartare
Smoked rosemary rubbed lamb with crispy polenta and candied kumquats
Curry mussels

48 day dry aged buffalo filet mignon

The best chocolate truffle ever!

For the May 21 dinner, Hanna Kirchenbauer, sales manager for North Coast Brewing, will be present to share her favorite flavors of craft beer while educating guests about the history and culture of this Northern California brewery. Featured beers will include: Puck, a Petite Saison (light citrus, light bitter aperitif); Scrimshaw, a German-style Pilsner (grassy and light);Old Stock Ale (maple honey viscous, sipping beer with a salted caramel float); Old Rasputin - Russian Imperial Stout (malty, coffee, bitter flavor); and Grand Cru - Belgian Strong Ale (coconut-toasted oak brandy). Expect a Baja-inspired meal.

"This is a lost art in my opinion," explained Kitchen 4140 Executive Chef Kurt Metzger. "Everyone is focused on wine pairings, but beer has been around much, much longer than wine. And there's a reason for it!"
