Fault Line Park Opens In San Diego's East Village

August 27, 2015

Marking the first public park to open in East Village in more than a decade, Civic San Diego, the City of San Diego and developer Pinnacle International will host a grand opening event for Fault Line Park to celebrate the new public space on Friday, August 28, starting at 11am. The 1.3-acre, park, a City of San Diego park constructed and to be maintained by Pinnacle International, features children’s play equipment, grassy open space, public art, an intimate garden, and seating areas.

Fault Line Park lays directly over Rose Canyon Fault and is symbolically marked by a walk way through the middle of the park. An interactive public art piece commissioned by the City’s Commission for Arts and Culture spans the fault.

At the Grand Opening, speakers will discuss the future of downtown and East Village, the importance of public open space in East Village, Fault Line Park’s unique public-private partnership, and the adjacent Pinnacle On The Park residential development, which has opened the first of two 45-story high rise towers that will ultimately provide 956 apartment homes, including 72 affordable units. In attendance will be Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Councilman Todd Gloria and many others.

Fault Line Park will provide the first public open space in East Village since Outfield Park (a.k.a. Park at the Park) located adjacent to Petco Park opened in 2004, and the first park in downtown since 2008 (Children’s Museum Park). Pursuant to a development agreement with the former Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego, Pinnacle International built and will maintain the park, with oversight by the City of San Diego. The park is west of Pinnacle On The Park, but located on the same superblock, creating a one-of-a-kind leisure area for East Village and Pinnacle On The Park residents.

Overlooking Fault Line Park is Stella Public House & Halcyon, where customers can grab a cup of coffee or a Halcyon picnic package and take advantage of the park or a beer and dinner after an afternoon strolling the new destination.

Fault Line Park is located at 1433 Island Avenue adjacent to 14th Street, between Island and J streets.
