The Cohn Restaurant Group has taken to Craigslist in search of an executive chef for its brand spanking new Coasterra Modern Mexican after the recent departure of John Gray. Coasterra has been open less than 3 weeks and Gray was a cornerstone to the launch of Cohn's largest San Diego endeavor to date - the 28,000 square foot, $15million waterside restaurant and event venue on Harbor Island.

We reached out to the Cohn Restaurant Group's Chef Partner Deborah Scott and the company's public relations team for more information and a comment and received the following response: "John Gray is no longer the Executive Chef at Coasterra. The Cohn Restaurant Group team has nothing but the deepest respect for this talented chef and we wish him the best on his future endeavors."

Chef John Gray was a big pick up for Coasterra, bringing a worldly perspective to San Diego’s dining scene. Gray’s career started at The Ritz-Carlton Resort in Cancun, Mexico where he was awarded the coveted AAA Five Diamond Award for both restaurants on the property, a first for any hotel at the time. He also led the menu development for the prestigious opening of The Grand Havana Room in New York City in 1997, followed by the launch of his own collective of restaurants in Riviera Maya with his namesake, John Gray’s Restaurant Group. One of his concepts called John Gray’s Place was named one of Condé Nast Traveler’s “Hot Tables,” and most recently Gray helped the Hilton group open two new luxury properties in Panama in 2013 and 2014.
