The chaos of July is behind us and it's August in San Diego County - the last full month of summer 2016. Keep the good times rolling all month long with this list of more than 50 fun & delicious events taking place around America's Finest City. As usual, if an event has not made this list, there is likely a reason for it. Certain events and food festivals are just not worth the time or money, and we aim to guide our readers to only the best! Check out the list below and please email us at with any recommendations for events to add.

August 1, Ambrogio15 Grand Opening - Following several months of construction and more than a year of recipe testing that took place in Italy, authentic Milanese pizzeria Ambrogio15 will open to the public on Monday, August 1 at 3pm in the former Table 926 space. The North Pacific Beach eatery’s menu will feature unique crusts including a paper-thin pizza that bakes in two minutes, whole-wheat pizza, soft Nuvola (Cloud) Focaccia and crunchy Scrocchiarella - all baked in a rotating turbo gas-firing oven that handles seven 15” pizzas at once. August 2, 3rd Annual Charity Shuck-A-Thon at Ironside Fish & Oyster - Want to find out who is the baddest female mother-shucker in SoCal? Eight fierce female competitors will each take a turn behind Ironside Fish & Oyster's raw bar to shuck as many oysters as they can in one hour, with every oyster sold during that hour to be donated to each shucker's chosen charity. Ironside will be offering the buck-a-shuck special all night long with 100% of the proceeds from every purchase of a $1 signature Ironside Select Oyster going straight to charity. August 3, Lost Abbey 5 Course Beer Dinner @ Notorious Burgers & Beer -Enjoy a special five-course prix-fixe menu curated by Executive Chef Brian Gruber and Guest Chef Andrew Leonard that encompasses some of the best “in-season” fare along with The Lost Abbey’s most popular brews. August 4 & 5, The Fashion of Food and Spirits - A two-day event showcasing culinary artistry tastings, craft beer, wine education, fashion and master mixology, The Fashion of Food and Spirits is an event where “fashion meets food and drinks with passion”. Live music and entertainment will accompany the evening brining the best of San Diego culture to life. August 6, 4th Annual San Diego Burger Battle - Bull BBQ is on a nationwide hunt to find the country’s best burgers. Over 20 competitors will throw down for bragging rights to the title of “Best Burger in San Diego”. August 6, Make Mead at Home Workshop w/ Golden Coast Mead - August 6th is National Mead Day! Celebrate by learning how to make mead from the experts at Golden Coast Mead. August 6, Farm to Bay at the Living Coast Discovery Center - Now in its seventh year, Farm to Bay is a unique tasting event on San Diego Bay that supports coastal wildlife, education, and sustainability at the Living Coast Discovery Center. With over 40 food and beverage partners and a sold-out crowd, Farm to Bay is the only local fundraiser held on a national wildlife refuge. August 9, Fermented Pairings Series Vol. 6: Beer Dinner at Small Bar - This event will bring diners a 5 course Fermented Pairings dinner with each course highlighting a fermented ingredient which will be prepared by San Diegos top chefs. This dinner will also be one of the few times to get White Labs beer outside of the brewery itself. This dinner will feature food and pairings from Erik Fowler of White Labs, Tyson Blake of O'Brien's, Nate Soroko of Toronado, Phillip Esteban of The Cork & Craft, and Karen Barnett of Small Bar. August 9, Royal Stone Hosts Coffee Cupping, Fortune-Telling and Art Show - The Bankers Hill eatery will offer guests a caffeinated evening out with a special Stumptown Coffee Cupping experience. Designed to introduce guests to the flavors and aromas of four artisanal varieties of Stumptown Coffee, this event will also feature a pop-up art gallery from local painter Susan Synder and happy hour pricing on food and drinks throughout the evening. August 10, Cooking Class & Dinner at The Marine Room - Join Marine Room Executive Chef Bernard Guillas and Chef de Cuisine Ron Oliver as they present “Foraged, Hooked, Picked ... My Chef’s Table,” a cooking demonstration and discussion where guests will learn tips and tricks while chefs share insights and recipes. August 16, 28th Annual Taste of MainStreet Encinitas - The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association will host the 28th installment of their annual Taste of Main Street. Held along S. Coast Hwy 101 in Downtown Encinitas, participants will be able to sample tastes from more than 30 local restaurants, sample wine and beer at 15 “Sip Stops,” and enjoy live music at 8 different locations. In addition to the “Sip Stops” featuring beer and wine, the event will feature several locations serving non-alcoholic beverages, such as coffee, kombucha, sports drinks, juices and water. August 17, Summer Cellar Series at Bernardo Winery - Enjoy a seasonal feast for the senses with the a winemaker, master coffee roaster, cheese monger & chef at Bernardo Winery & Cellar. This dining and wine experience will feature tasty pairings of seasonal bites influenced by the Rizzo family's long heritage of "Living off the Land". August 23, Reimagining Food Waste Symposium - The Berry Good Food Foundation will take un food waste for its third of four, free-to-attend multidisciplinary panel discussions for 2016 on single topics at the intersection of food and the environment. A diverse panel of experts will discuss the implications of food waste at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center in downtown San Diego, presented in conjunction with Kitchens for Good.
