Helm's Brewing To Release Beer With Homegrown Hops

September 23, 2016

Helm's Brewing recently expanded its operation from its main brewery in Kearney Mesa to a satellite tasting room on the main stretch of Ocean Beach. To celebrate its new neighborhood, the team at Helm's brewed up a special beer using fresh hops grown in the Ocean Beach Community Garden, which will be released on September 28.

In an effort to support the ideas of thinking local and community engagement, Helm's spent the last six months growing hops (Cascade, Citra, Chinook, and Magnum) in the OB garden, which they used up to brew "OB Fresh," an extra pale ale, which will be released at their Ocean Beach location during the farmer's market on Wednesday, September 28, starting at 5pm. Head brewer Daniel Morris will be on hand to talk about the brewing process using freshly grown hops.

Helm’s Brewing was started by four shipbuilders who set out to brew great tasting beer for their community. As true craftsmen, Helm’s utilized their kinship and industrial expertise to hand build their own brewery the same way they construct their ships, which they also did with the Ocean Beach tasting room. Since 2012, Helm’s has engineered a fleet of award winning beers.

Helm’s Brewing Company's main brewery is located at 5640 Kearny Mesa Road in Kearny Mesa and the tasting room is situated at 4896 Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach. For more information, visit helmsbrewingco.com.
