Knotty Brewing Co.'s downtown tasting room and brewery will unveil in conjunction with a grand opening party scheduled for Wednesday, September 14. Located adjacent to Knotty Barrel Gastropub in San Diego's East Village and occupying the space that previously housed Valentines Mexican Food, Knotty Brewing's 5 barrel brewhouse will be visible through a 9 ft. glass wall connecting both spaces and will pump out Old World style house brews, including a British Pale Ale, Grapefruit Blonde, Robust Porter and Belgian Witbier.
The leadership team for Knotty Brewing consists of Knotty Barrel president Ken Lovi (who also has partnership interests in Don Chido and Rustic Root), head brewery Donovan Lane, and general manager and assistant brewer Rich Haley. Head Brewer Donovan Lane moved to San Diego from Maine, where he was the head brewer of Funky Bow Brewing, to assist in building Knotty Brewing Co., with the goal of creating unique British and European style beers, as opposed to San Diego's usual hop focused breweries.

Knotty Brewing will host a grand opening and fundraiser on Wednesday, September 14, offering happy hour specials from 4-7pm, as well as $3 pints on 24 drafts (after 7pm). From 4-8pm on the day of the event, 10% of all food and beverage proceeds will go to benefit the East Village Associations landmark sign initiative.
In addition to Knotty Brewing, the Knotty Barrel team also recently completed converting an adjacent 2,000-plus square foot parking lot into Knotty's Backyard, which is a pet-friendly outdoor patio its own entrance on 9th Avenue, as well as its own bar, drought-tolerant landscaping, a cornhole court, a fire pit, and water features like a doggy fountain.
