Newly Reopened The Hake In La Jolla To Debut Independent Bar Concept On Repeal Day

December 1, 2016

Coinciding with Repeal Day, the recently renovated La Jolla restaurant will officially debut PROOF at The Hake, an upscale bar and lounge that will operate independently from the main dining room. In addition to a multi-page cocktail menu, PROOF will be home to its own separate menu of dishes from the kitchen, each with recommended cocktail pairings - one spirit forward and one citrus forward.

To celebrate and in honor of Congress passing the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution thereby ending the National Prohibition Act on December 5, 1933, PROOF at The Hake will be hosting a Repeal Day kick-off party complete with live music, $5 Fernet shots, draft beers and house wines. To commemorate the occasion, The Hake’s barmen, led by Beverage Curator Joan Villanueva, will all be styled in Prohibition-era dress. The entire cocktail selection will be discounted to $8 (usually $10-22) to encourage revelers to explore the foundation behind PROOF’s cocktail-driven bar program. The event is open to the public with no advance ticket required.

PROOF will continue indefinitely as an independent part of The Hake. As far as the food menu goes, it will be an abbreviated version of the restaurant menu with highlights including a daily crudo, little neck clams, yellow beet crudo and shrimp and pork tamale. Highlights of PROOF’s craft libations include the Japanese Spell with Nikka Coffey Grain, Luxardo and Green Tea Tincture, the Heart Opener with Pitú Cachaça, Luxardo and Pistachio Fallernum, the Flying Over Jerez with Amontillado Sherry, Grand Marnier, Luxardo, Bitter Truth Violet and Lemon Juice, and A Shot In The Dark with Cointreau, Crème de Cocoa, Ancho Reyes and Fernet Branca.

PROOF at The Hake will be open daily at 5pm and remain open an hour past restaurant closing. The Hake is located at 1250 Prospect Street in La Jolla. For more information, visit
