Bite Sized Bakery & Café To Sweeten Up San Diego's Kearny Mesa

April 24, 2017

Coming soon to the Convoy Street shopping plaza that houses Shanghai Saloon and Kula Sushi is Bite Sized Bakery & Café, a mini-dessert, pastry and coffee shop anticipated to sweeten up San Diego's Kearny Mesa neighborhood when it debuts this spring.

Owned by Eva Hum and her four sisters, Bite Sized Bakery & Café will offer traditional bite-sized baked goods, including vegan and gluten-free options, such as cookies, brownie-bites, mini-cakes, and mini-tarts, as well as a coffee & tea menu from Cafe Moto. The eatery's two pastry chefs will eventually add French-inspired delicacies such as macarons, canelé, Kouign-amann and hopefully, fresh baked bread. Bite Sized also aims to include breakfast and lunch options like homemade sandwiches, soups, salads, and take-and-reheat dishes on the menu for easy dinner preparation.

"This will be our first foray into food for me and my four sisters, but we do have cooking in our history with our grandmother being a chef in her own Chinese restaurant in the 60s and 70s," explained Hum. "Our professions are so different from the food industry. By training, I am a licensed lawyer, real-estate broker, and soon-to-be empty-nester. One sister is a special-education teacher, another works in non-profit, one is an accountant and the other sister is an attorney, but we all seem to have a passion for baking. For me, it’s cookies. For my one sister, she makes an awe-inspiring sponge cake that is light, full-flavored, and soft beyond reproach."

Bite Sized Bakery & Café is located at 4609 Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa and is anticipated to open by mid-May. For more information, visit bitesizedbakerysd.wixsite.com.
