Tamarindo Latin Kitchen + Bar Now Open In North Park

April 17, 2017

From the owners of Fred's Mexican Cafe, Tamarindo Latin Kitchen + Bar is now open within the 2,500 square-foot former Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge space, offering a Latin-fusion menu in the heart of San Diego's North Park Community.

Owned by Moose Restaurant Group - which currently owns and operates Fred Mexican Cafe locations in Old Town, Huntington Beach, Kihei HI and two Moose’s Pub & Cafés in Hawaii, Tamarindo debuts tonight in the 1930s-era, newly bright blue building that housed Claire de Lune Coffee lounge for nearly two decades.

The food menu at Tamarindo has been designed by chef de cuisine Elliott Townsend, who last worked in the kitchen at Little Italy's Juniper & Ivy and was the executive chef at The Pearl Hotel in Point Loma before that. Townsend will use the finest local ingredients, including produce from Specialty Produce and seafood from Catalina Offshore Products, to serve an eclectic Mexican-heavy menu. Behind the bar, Townsend's best friend and fellow San Diego native Mark Broadfood, who created the bar program at La Jolla's Galaxy Taco, has designed a menu centered around Mexican spirits. Expect a mezcal and tequila rich menu of cocktails, as well as local draft beer, micheladas, Mexican wines and more.

Tamarindo is located at 2906 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park and is currently open Sunday through Thursday from 11am-midnight and Friday & Saturday from 11-2am. For more information, visit tamarindonp.com and check out the menus below.
