Today was the always amazing SoNo Fest & Chili Cookoff, a neighborhood block party that includes a chili competition between 40 of San Diego's top eateries. We came, we saw, we judged, and we conquered. Check out our video from the event and be sure not to miss next year!
Carnitas Snack Shack came out as the overall judges' choice, winning top honors for its delicious and smokey chili with cornbread. Other awards were given to Anthem Vegan for Top Vegetarian, Burger Lounge for Most Unique, and the People’s Choice award went to The Smoking Gun. The real winners were the attendees, who all had the chance to eat dozens of chili samples in custom bowls and branded mini-mugs, all while enjoying a craft beer garden, shopping local vendors and rocking out to numerous live acts on multiple stages - all during a most beautiful San Diego afternoon.
SoNo Fest is an all-volunteer event that has become one of the neighborhood's largest festivals, with nearly 20,000 hungry patrons hitting the block to taste, sip, shop, and play their way through the best that North Park and South Park have to offer. Since its inception in 2010, the SoNo Fest & Chili Cook-Off has raised over $275,000 for McKinley Elementary School’s International Baccalaureate program.
