San Diego Pride Welcomes All Women to She Fest 2014 | Saturday, July 12 from 11am-6pm

July 7, 2014

All women are invited to the premier of the first official women’s event taking place this Pride season – She Fest – on Saturday, July 12 from 11 am to 6 pm at North Park Community Park. She Fest is a woman-centered event that celebrates and supports the talents and contributions of all women while fostering meaningful connections within the LGBT and larger San Diego community. Women who want to feel more connected to a community of women and who love outdoor live music on a sunny day are especially encouraged to participate.

The brain-child behind of this new pride event is Kelcie Kopf. As a native from the South, moving to San Diego was a culture shock for her. She felt like the only way to connect with other women was at the bars. She wanted new ways of making healthy and meaningful connections in the community. The intention of She Fest is to unite and empower women far more than any night out on the town in Hillcrest.

“My goal with this festival is that we can go into pride weekend feeling stronger and more united as a community of women and begin to shape the face of our LGBTQ community,” Kopf said.

The one day festival will include live music, workshops, booths, and sports taking place in a safe space where women can experience support, encouragement and empowerment.  Participants should be prepared to make meaningful connections with musicians, artists, women business owners, and fellow sports fanatics at She Fest.

From 11 am to 3 pm, participants can choose between free yoga and Zumba classes and sign-up for flag football. Attendees should bring a lawn chair, a picnic, non-alcoholic beverages and sit back and enjoy the amazing and talented women on who are scheduled to perform on stage. Musical performances will be by Monica Fontanoza, Mira Parfitt, Lillian Lefranc, Christine Sako, Bakkuda, Studdin Daily, Spare Parts for Broken Hearts, The Lovebirds, and Sister Speak. An after party will be held at U-31 Lounge in North Park, located on University Ave. at 31st St.

A number of workshops will be also be presented at She Fest from 11 am to 1 pm, including topics such as Relationships, Self-branding, Bike Safety/Mechanics, and Reducing Stress/Managing Chronic Pain. There will also be a raffle with great prizes, including a chance to win San Diego Pride Music Festival passes, including 2 VIP all-access passes.

This is a free event, but support is appreciated. Participants can order an original She Fest shirt for a donation of $15 online now at squareup.com/market/she-fest-2014. General donations and sponsorship opportunities are also available.
