Uncle Chai Thailand Street Food To Open In San Diego's Pacific Beach

January 14, 2021

Opening soon in the Pacific Beach space that last housed Tacos Mimi is Uncle Chai Thailand Street Food, a new kind of Thai eatery from an experienced restaurateur.

Chef Chai & Ally Butrlakorn operated multiple restaurants in the Palm Desert area before relocating to Thailand four years ago. Now the husband-and-wife team are living in San Diego and have taken over a restaurant space in the Dunaway Building in Pacific Beach to open Uncle Chai Thailand Street Food.

Uncle Chai's will serve a menu of authentic Isaan (northern Thailand) style Thai street food dishes like Gai Yang Isaan char-grilled half marinated chicken served with a spicy red chili sauce; Isaan Thai pork sausage served with fresh ginger, Thai chili, peanuts and fresh green cabbage; Jungle Curry with curry paste cooked in finger root jungle broth, and complimented by Thai basil, fresh vegetables and choice of chicken shrimp, fish, scallops or tofu; and steamed "sticky" rice Isaan-style served in a bamboo container.

Uncle Chai Thailand Street Food is expected to open as early as this February at 4508 Cass Street, Suite D, in San Diego's Pacific Beach.
