April 15, 2024

The team behind the China Max revival in San Diego's Kearny Mesa is also working on opening a homemade dumpling eatery in Encinitas.

Earlier this year, Yingkang Lu and Xiaoxi Zhang, who once operated modern Chinese restaurant Kangxi Is Coming and also own Kanpai BBQ & Shabu on Convoy Street and Cantonese eatery Taste of Hong Kong, took over China Max restaurant in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. China Max closed in April 2020 following a fire and the new owners are in the process of reopening the authentic Cantonese restaurant. Following a multi-million dollar renovation, China Max is expected to unveil this summer and will employ many of the same staff

China Max's new ownership is also in the process of opening Dumpling Bar, an incoming Chinese restaurant specializing in homemade dumplings sited in Encinitas Village Shopping Center. Expect the menu to include salads, soups, noodles, pan-fried buns, wok fried plates, and a variety of dumplings lincluding xiao long bao soup dumplings, spicy won tons, potstickers, and even dessert dumplings. As for drinks, the quaint eatery will serve a selection of soft drinks, Thai tea, and boba milk tea.

Dumpling Bar is anticipated to open at some point this summer at 119 North El Camino Real, Suite E,  in San Diego's North County city of Encinitas. For more information, follow Dumpling Bar on Instagram and check out the menu below.
