After closing its flagship brewhouse in La Mesa late last year, Bolt Brewery has now rebranded its existing locations in San Diego's Old Town and Little Italy to become Taco Loco.
What was once Bolt Brewery’s bustling outpost in Little Italy is now officially Taco Loco, marking a flavorful new chapter for the longtime San Diego beverage brand. On April 28, the brewery’s location at 1971 India Street was rebranded and relaunched with a new identity, new menu, and a commitment to maintaining its roots in local craft beer - all with a vibrant, taco-fueled twist.
Taco Loco, which debuted in tandem at both the Little Italy and Old Town locations, now offers a bold and festive blend of tacos, burritos, custom margaritas and martinis, and the same local craft beer that helped put Bolt Brewery on the map. The transformation was announced via Instagram, promising "good vibes, bold flavors, and unforgettable times," and quickly stirred excitement across the local dining scene - especially with its Cinco de Mayo kickoff celebration.
Bolt Brewery, originally founded in Fallbrook in the 1980s and resurrected in 2014 by husband-and-wife duo Clint and Molly Stromberg, previously operated several locations across San Diego County. While their La Mesa flagship closed in late 2024, the Little Italy tasting room emerged as their strongest asset. That space has now become the nucleus of Taco Loco's reimagined brand.
The venue itself remains largely the same in structure, with its inviting indoor bar and airy patio dining, but the vibe has shifted significantly. Taco Loco leans hard into a fun, casual atmosphere with colorful decor, a street food-inspired menu, and a beverage list designed to keep guests lingering into the evening. While Bolt’s signature beers still flow from the taps, the addition of tequila-based cocktails and fresh Mexican fare gives the concept broader appeal.
Taco Loco is located at 1971 India Street in Little Italy and 2547 San Diego Avenue in Old Town. For more information, visit tacolocosd.com.
