Liberty Call Distilling To Permanently Close Barrio Logan Tasting Room On July 20

After more than a decade in business and five years in San Diego’s Barrio Logan neighborhood, Liberty Call Distilling has announced it will permanently close its tasting room on July 20.

The announcement, sent via email to customers and supporters, marks the end of an ambitious local distillery brand that once operated two restaurant concepts alongside its spirits business. Founders Marc Lord and Bill Rogers expressed deep gratitude for the community's support over the years and invited patrons to visit for one final toast before the doors close for good.

"We're going to be bottling up the last of the bourbon that we have in stock, as well as some amazing rum," the farewell message reads. "So here's to one last Steak Night, one Last Member's Night, Wing Night, and Lobo's Lunch Special. Hope to see you soon."

Founded in 2013 in Spring Valley, Liberty Call built a loyal following with its small-batch whiskey, rum, gin, and other craft spirits. In June 2020, the company expanded with a full-scale bar and restaurant at the Mercado del Barrio development in Barrio Logan, aiming to fuse their distilling prowess with elevated food offerings.

However, the business has faced headwinds in recent years. In August 2024, Liberty Call opened Shore Duty, a second restaurant and bar in Coronado, only to shutter the location less than four months later. As reported in December, their Barrio Logan location was also quietly listed for sale for $295,000, including liquor licenses and equipment, raising early concerns about the company’s long-term plans.

With the impending closure, Liberty Call’s footprint in San Diego will officially come to an end. Still, the team’s message of appreciation reflects a lasting legacy among local distilling enthusiasts. The final day of operation at Liberty Call Distilling’s Barrio Logan location is Saturday, July 20.

Liberty Call Distilling is located at 1985 National Ave, Suite 1117, in San Diego's Barrio Logan. For more information, visit libertycall.com.
