High-Pie to Close At North County San Diego's Iconic ‘Top Gun House’ As New Dessert Concept Lines Up

High-Pie, the whimsical hand-pie shop operating out of Oceanside’s famed “Top Gun house,” has announced it will close its doors in San Diego’s North County, marking the end of a short but memorable chapter for one of the region’s most recognizable historic structures.

The announcement was shared this week by High-Pie, which has operated since 2022 inside the Graves House - the Victorian cottage made famous as the oceanfront home of Kelly McGillis’ character in the 1986 film Top Gun. In a farewell message, the business confirmed its time inside the property is coming to an end, while hinting at future plans still to be revealed.

According to the business, High-Pie will remain open inside the Top Gun House through January 4, 2026. Its signature hand pies will continue to be available next door at High/Low, the casual café concept also operated within the Mission Pacific Hotel complex.

The Graves House itself is now being shopped to make way for a new dessert and ice cream brand, though no operator or concept has yet been announced. Any replacement will inherit one of the most photographed and historically significant food-and-drink spaces in San Diego County, a fact that has already generated curiosity among locals and visitors alike.
Built in the 1880s, the approximately 500-square-foot cottage was meticulously restored and repurposed by restaurateur Tara Lazar of F10 Creative, the Palm Springs–based hospitality group behind Cheeky’s, Mr. Lyon’s Steakhouse, Birba, Seymour’s, and Hotel Alcazar. High-Pie was conceived as a playful, cinematic nod to the building’s pop-culture legacy, complete with Top Gun memorabilia and a conveyor-belt display of fried hand pies.

The closure comes amid continued evolution along Oceanside’s North Myers Street corridor, which has rapidly transformed into one of North County’s most high-profile dining destinations. Just steps away from the Top Gun House sits Valle, the Michelin-starred Mexican fine-dining restaurant led by chef Roberto Alcocer. Valle has helped anchor the area as a culinary draw, bringing national attention and food-tourism traffic to the Mission Pacific Hotel and its surrounding businesses.

High-Pie’s departure underscores the ongoing reshuffling of concepts within Oceanside’s hospitality landscape, where even beloved, high-visibility locations are not immune to change. While the pie shop’s next move has not been disclosed, the operators signaled that the brand is not disappearing entirely - only closing this particular chapter. Details about the incoming dessert and ice cream concept are expected to emerge in the coming months as the property transitions to its next iteration.

High-Pie is located at 250 North Pacific Street in San Diego's North County city of Oceanside. For more information, visit highpief10.com
