According to permit filings, Buck Mason is evaluating locations at either 7802 Girard Avenue in the heart of downtown La Jolla or within Westfield UTC at 4301 La Jolla Village Drive. Recent hiring activity tied specifically to La Jolla suggests the coastal village storefront is the more likely candidate. The proposed Girard Avenue location would occupy approximately 1,900 square feet in a space formerly occupied by California clothing retailer CP Shades.
Founded in 2013 by Erik Allen Ford and Sasha Koehn, Buck Mason started with a simple mission: create timeless American wardrobe essentials that avoid fast-fashion trends in favor of durable construction and classic design. What began in a small Venice garage producing T-shirts and jeans has evolved into one of the country's fastest-growing premium apparel brands, with more than 40 stores nationwide spanning California, New York, Texas, Illinois, Florida, Washington, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and beyond.
The company has cultivated a loyal following through its understated aesthetic and emphasis on quality fabrics, American-inspired silhouettes, and wardrobe staples designed to last for years rather than seasons. Its product line now includes men's and women's apparel, denim, outerwear, leather goods, accessories, and limited vintage offerings.
In recent years, Buck Mason has expanded beyond clothing retail by introducing additional experiential elements inside select stores, including vintage watch collections, bookstores, and its increasingly buzzworthy Fast Times Coffee concept.
Described by the company as "diner coffee done right," Fast Times Coffee serves a proprietary house roast called Gold Country, featuring notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut, and caramel. The concept first launched in Nashville before expanding to New York City and Los Angeles, where some locations combine coffee service with curated bookstores and lounge-like environments designed to encourage customers to linger rather than simply shop.
The Los Angeles location, which recently opened behind Buck Mason's women's flagship store on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, has already gained attention as a hidden neighborhood coffee destination tucked discreetly behind the retail space.
San Diego already has a small Buck Mason presence through a shop-in-shop location inside Bloomingdale's at Fashion Valley, but the forthcoming La Jolla store would mark the brand's first dedicated standalone storefront in the county.
The addition also continues a broader trend of lifestyle retailers increasingly incorporating hospitality concepts into their brick-and-mortar footprints. Rather than relying solely on apparel sales, brands are creating environments that encourage visitors to spend more time onsite through coffee programs, food offerings, events, and community spaces.
Buck Mason has not yet announced an official opening date for its San Diego store. Based on permitting activity and ongoing hiring efforts, however, the company's long-awaited arrival appears to be moving forward.
Buck Mason's proposed San Diego location is expected to open at 7802 Girard Avenue in La Jolla. For more information, visit BuckMason.com and FastTimesCoffee.com.
