Man Repeatedly Stabbed In Unprovoked Attack Outside San Diego Bar That Already Has Recent History Of Violence

A man was repeatedly stabbed in what San Diego police describe as an unprovoked attack outside a Jamacha-area bar Monday night, marking the latest violent incident connected to a Cardiff Street business that has already made headlines this year.

According to the San Diego Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:04pm on June 29 to a bar in the 900 block of Cardiff Street after receiving reports of a stabbing. Police said a 33-year-old man was standing outside the establishment smoking when a 35-year-old man he did not know allegedly approached him without warning.

Investigators say the suspect told the victim he was going to kill him before stabbing him twice in the chest and twice in the arm. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Officers detained the suspected attacker at the scene without further incident. Police have not yet released the identities of either individual or disclosed a possible motive. Detectives from the San Diego Police Department's Southeastern Division are leading the investigation.

Although police have not officially identified the business involved, the incident occurred in front of the Cardiff Street mariscos bar known as Tacos De Ojo/La Sinaloense Bar & Cantina, the same establishment that was the scene of a dramatic and violent disturbance just over two months ago.

In the early morning hours of April 19, police responded to reports of an altercation involving a patron and bar security. According to investigators, the suspect retrieved a shotgun from his pickup truck and fired a round into the air before security personnel attempted to disarm him. During the struggle, another round was discharged. After losing control of the weapon, the suspect allegedly climbed back into his truck and began ramming multiple vehicles in the parking lot before crashing into the front entrance of the business.

Authorities said the suspect then fled, crashing through a fence before leading police on a pursuit that ended when he slammed into a home several blocks away. A woman inside the residence was knocked unconscious and hospitalized. Investigators recovered both a shotgun and an Airsoft rifle in connection with that incident.

Monday night's stabbing remains under investigation, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the San Diego Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

The latest attack raises fresh concerns following the recent string of serious violent incidents connected to the Cardiff Street location, though investigators have not indicated that the two cases are related.
