Alex Newell of 'Glee'
July 18, 2012

San Diego LGBT Pride is thrilled to announce the addition of Alex Newell, who plays “Unique/Wade,” a transgender character, on the smash hit show, ‘Glee.’  In line with the mission of Pride, Alex Newell has been an amazing addition to the diversity of the Glee cast.  Newell will also take part in the Pride Parade.
Other new entertainment additions to the “America’s Pride” celebration July 20 – 22, 2012 are:

Sandra Bernhard guarantees to have festival revelers laughing with her classic mix of bitter critique for both celebrity culture and politics.  Bernhard was previously scheduled to lead the Pride Parade as Grand Marshal and will continue to do so.  Her stand-up set will follow her parade appearance on Saturday evening July 21st,.

Wynter Gordon is sure to have festival goers partying and dancing Saturday evening with an energetic performance from her latest album.  Her current hit single ‘Dirty Talk’ went triple platinum and shot to the top of Billboard’s ‘Hot Dance Club Songs’.

Justin Utley
Over at the Country Pride Dance Tent, Justin Utley will be performing.  In 2010, Justin’s single ‘Stand for Something’ won the LGBT Academy of Recording Arts award for Best Country/Folk Song of the Year. The song was written to inspire people to take action towards securing LGBT equality in America.

Headlining the Pride of Hillcrest Block Party on Friday, July 20th is Neon Hitch, who’s current hit songs ‘Love U Betta’ (radio title) and “Ass Back Home’ with Gym Class Heroes are dance club favorites. The block party will take place immediately after the Flag Raising and Stonewall Rally. This new, official Pride event will kick-off the weekend fun with urban style and flair.  More info at www.PrideofHillcrest.com.

“We are excited to announce these additions to the Pride weekend lineup.  Not only are these performers popular and high energy, but it is particularly exciting that several of them come from the LGBT community,” said San Diego Pride Executive Director, Dwayne Crenshaw.  “Our team is hard at work to make this an amazing Pride celebration for all.  From country to comedy to dance and everything in between, there is something for everyone in this year’s entertainment lineup.”

These artists join Pride’s already announced energetic and high powered festival entertainment lineup featuring  Natasha Bedingfield (headlining Sunday, July 22), Frankie Negron, BETTY and Danny Extreme.  Previously announced artist, Kelly Rowland, has cancelled her performance at this year’s Pride festival.
