Cooks Confab Hosts Christmas Dinner! | Chef Organization Announces An Old English, Victorian-style Holiday Event on December 16th

November 26, 2012

Cooks Confab, San Diego’s notorious collection of notable chefs and mixologists, is hosting a premiere event this December. Taking a step back into the age of Queen Victoria with a classic French-inspired twist, Christmas Dinner! will be held at Oliver & Rose on Sunday, Dec. 16th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Cooks Confab has teamed up with longtime partner Slow Food Urban San Diego to give a select group of San Diegans an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind Christmas experience.

Chef Andrew Spurgin
“We are pulling out all of the stops to recreate a time and place that mirrors the best of the Victorian age—without the chastity belts—paired with the precise cuisine of Escoffier,” said Andrew Spurgin, a Confab co-founder. “We are all excited about the whole experience—from the menu to the setting to the entertainment—believe me, it’s about more than just the food!”

This Christmas Dinner! will be a more intimate and unique Confab experience, with limited seats available for a single seating. Guests will feel as if they have been transported back in time thanks to the sights, sounds and smells of a quintessential English repast, and due in part as well by the request that all arrive in dinner attire, period dress or even Steampunk-inspired garb. Driven by standout talent, quality of product and exceptional technique, the chef’s unique styles will be represented in an array of old-fashioned fare, from standing rib roast served hot and sliced tableside, to classic dishes involving aspic and terrines. The elegant event space, as well as the servers, will be dressed accordingly for the event, including butler service and classic silver tableware.

Oliver & Rose
What began as a few local chefs casually chatting over food and drinks has now evolved into what is now Cooks Confab, a grouping of San Diego’s most innovative chefs sharing their culinary talents with San Diegans by hosting stylishly fun grand scale dinner parties. A progressive concept that changes venues with each event, each of the now fifteen chefs involved takes a turn hosting at their venue, bringing his or her own distinct flavor to the chosen edible-driven theme or central ingredient. At the core of the group is a like-minded passion for food and deep respect for the way in which it is grown, raised, prepared and ultimately served.  Through dinners, special events and educational sessions, the members of Cooks Confab hope to foster awareness in individuals to make responsible decisions in their food choices and to promote the importance and accessibility of local, sustainable and responsible ingredients.

Participating Confab chefs for the Christmas Dinner! event include: Andrew Spurgin (Andrew Spurgin™); Katie Grebow (Café Chloe); Jeff Jackson (A.R. Valentien); Melissa Mayer (Martini Media); Amy DiBiase (The Shores Restaurant); Olivier Bioteau (The Farm House Café); Donald Coffman (Culinary Concepts); Ian Ward & Lucien Conner (Pick & Rocks); James Rauh (The West Bean)

Tickets are $175 and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis online. Each guest is encouraged to bring a new unwrapped plush toy for donation to children in need, while a percent of ticket proceeds go to Slow Food Urban San Diego. Oliver & Rose is Café Chloe's private dining space located at 726 Ninth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101.
