Over 30,000 Expected at the 5th Annual La Jolla Art & Wine Festival | October 12-13

September 22, 2013

We're less than one month away from one of San Diego's hottest Fall tickets! Named nationally as one of the U.S.' "Top Fall Food & Drink Events" by Eater.com, the non-profit La Jolla Art & Wine Festival is set to take place this year on Saturday, October 12th & Sunday, October 13th. Packed with 2 days of wine, art, music, fun & charity, the entire picturesque village of downtown La Jolla will transform itself into one of the most prestigious art and wine festivals in the country!

On the heels of last year’s tremendous success, this 2-day, non-profit festival raised over $100,000 in 2012 for local public elementary schools and anticipates over 30,000 attendees at this year’s event.  The 2013 LJAWF is free to attend (with a $5 cash donation kindly accepted at all festival entrances), open to the public and takes place in the very heart of La Jolla just above the seaside coves.

Taking place in the gorgeous coastal village of downtown La Jolla, the bustling area of Girard Avenue will once again transform itself into an art and wine lovers paradise featuring the works of over 150 established artists from San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Baja and beyond. This year’s fifth annual LJAWF welcomes veterans from years past as well as returning award-winners. This year’s show also features a significant batch of renowned artists who will be showing at the LJAWF for the first time.  LJAWF artists’ works celebrate a number of mediums such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media and photography.  All of the artists showing at the LJAWF have been handpicked by a highly qualified jury of artists, authors, critics and collectors.

In addition to an eclectic mix of original artwork, the LJAWF proudly boasts an expansive wine and beer garden highlighting over 20 premier wineries from around the world including Francis Ford Coppola, Schlossadler International Wines, La Serenissima, as well as a number of fine wines from Baja’s flourishing Valle de Guadalupe region. A handful of San Diego’s nationally renowned breweries will also be in attendance pouring their award-winning brews including Stone Brewing Co., Ballast Point and more. A Gourmet Marketplace will be situated off Silverado Street and offers attendees an eclectic taste featuring many of San Diego’s finest boutique eateries including local favorite, La Jolla’s Puesto Mexican Street Food.

Offering adventures for kids of all ages, the Geppetto’s/La Jolla Family YMCA Art Center will be located on Wall Street – where children will have the opportunity to paint a car donated by Witt Lincoln, take art or dance classes, participate in games, chalk art, crafts, edible art, cartooning, and even a family scavenger hunt. Other highlights of this year’s two-day event include an exciting lineup of live music as well as roving entertainment by the San Diego Circus Center, which teaches Cirque du Soleil inspired performances to children and young adults. In addition, this year’s LJAWF will give attendees the opportunity to partake in a silent action offering an assortment of hot ticket items like iPads, 2-night hotel stays, gift cards to fine dining restaurants all over San Diego, staycation activities for children, theatre tickets, winery and brewery packages, as well as LJAWF participating artist artwork to name a few.

Founded by Sherry Ahern, a driving force in San Diego’s philanthropic landscape, the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival was created through the support of Friends of La Jolla Elementary Inc. and has in recent years established a partnership with the La Jolla Village Merchants Association.  All profits raised benefit underfunded programs such as art, music, science, physical education, technology, and on-site medical care at four local public elementary and middle schools, which are all part of the San Diego Unified School District. Pets will be permitted this year within the event.
