Whether you like them spicy hot, sticky sweet or cooked to a smoky crisp—there’s just something irresistible about chicken wings. This all-American finger food is a go-to snack for any occasion, often times smothered in hot sauce and served with bleu cheese (or ranch in California!). Since Americans consume more than 25 billion chicken wings each year, it’s only right that a food this popular is recognized with a holiday. Celebrate National Chicken Wing Day this July 29, and every day, by heading to these local establishments. Hope you’re hungry!

Stop by Brazen BBQ for an incredible southern-style feast in the heart of Hillcrest. Their infusion of classic smokehouse BBQ with popular California ingredients makes Brazen BBQ a bold original. From tri tip subs to pulled pork sandwiches, they’re proud to disregard the traditional rules of BBQ and focus on culinary creativity. Their famous Brazen’s Smoked Wings are dry rubbed in your choice of homemade sauce, then slowly cooked to perfection. Mouth-watering and perfect for sharing, you won’t want to miss out on these tender treats.

From the barn to the beach, Pacific Beach’s eclectic, casual bar, The Duck Dive, is geared up to give a completely different wing experience. Their laid-back ambiance paired with tasty Gastro-pub cuisine makes this spot any surfers paradise. After a long summer day under the sun, cool off with the Dragon Wings. Double-fried in duck fat then glazed in Asian inspired hoisin-plum mahogany sauce, this delicacy has got the tang and the crisp.

Venture north to the iconic community of La Jolla, which might fool you into believing you’ve entered an entirely new country. It’s truly a special town, full of historic landmarks, scenic views and amazing restaurants. In the center of downtown you’ll find La Jolla Brewing Company, where everyone is welcomed to enjoy a cold beer and a good meal at the end of the day. As part of San Diego’s elite local breweries, it also has an incredible hand-crafted menu. Bring your family, friends and dog (yes, they have a dog menu) and order up. Their Wings Appetizer features jumbo chicken that’s deep fried and tossed in your choice of house-made sauce. Dip into that Sweet Teriyaki or Root Beer BBQ sauce and you’ve got the best lip-smacking wings in La Jolla!

Make your way south and you’ll stumble onto a Pacific Beach hot spot that’s just steps from the sand. With arguably one of the best views around, The Wood boasts three stories of entertainment, including ocean views, a full bar and plenty of room to dance the night away. Inevitably you’ll find your way to their menu and see what can best be described as an diverse selection of delicious food. Order the crowd-pleasing Wings Sampler and enjoy fresh chicken fried or grilled and served with your choice of “fire-crackling” house-made sauces. Try the Lemon Pepper sauce on your wings, it’s sure make everyone at the table happy.

Southpaw Social Club in San Diego's East Village knows how to do chicken wings. These bad boys are cooked to perfection and fall off the bone. Overlooking Petco Park, Padres fans can see the action while munching down on 5 styles of double cooked wings, including Spiced Maple, Thai Caramel and Sweet Chili. Cool the spice with any of Southpaw's more than 40 draft beers!

You can't have a list of top spots for chicken wings in San Diego without including Dirty Bird's in Pacific Beach. With more flavor options than one can count, Dirty Bird's has something for everyone (except vegetarian wings). Our favorites include the 3 Pete BBQ, General Bird, and Garlic Parmesan, but you really can't go wrong!

There's only one style and no drumsticks (just the wings), but OB Noodle House still may have some of the best in San Diego. The Nood's spicy garlic wings are to die for, and are certainly a labor of love if you've seen Guy Fieri's most recent San Diego edition of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Now with two location in Ocean Beach, hungry patrons don't have to wait as long as they used to for these delicious wings.
