Today, David and Leslie Cohn, on behalf of their expansive Cohn Restaurant Group, broke ground on their most ambitious project to date, a $10+million, 24,000 square food indoor/outdoor restaurant, lounge and event center on Harbor Island at the former location of Reuben E. Lee. Located at 800 Harbor Island Drive, the Port of San Diego property is adjacent to Cohn Group's Island Prime and C Level. Currently dubbed 880 Harbor, the project is being developed by Sunroad Harbor Island, Inc. and Graham Downes and Gensler architectural firm and is anticipated to open spring 2015.

880 Harbor is planned to be a premier indoor/outdoor dining, banquet, wedding and event space with sweeping, panoramic views of the San Diego harbor and skyline with "On the Water" floating dining. Resting on the east end of Harbor Island, the Cohn Restaurant Group’s newest dining destination will present locals and out-of-town guests with an all-new venue, providing over 10,000 square feet of outdoor patio space, banquet and event facilities, as well as a full-service restaurant and lounge featuring modern Mexican cuisine. The expansive destination event center can accommodate more than 1,000 guests on the outdoor floating event deck and over 300 seated in the banquet room.

"There's a tremendous desire by San Diegans and those who visit the city to be on the water—not near the water, or with a view of the water—but directly on the water," says David Cohn, founder of Cohn Restaurant Group. “San Diego has earned the reputation of ‘America's Finest City’ for many reasons, and the breathtaking skyline and incredible views of our beautiful bay and downtown are at the top of the list. Over the years, our guests at Island Prime & C Level have raved about the unique scenery in this particular area, which provides front-row seats to everything from tall ships, divers training seals for reconnaissance missions, Navy aircraft carriers, and cruise ships coming into port from destinations all over the world. As nighttime approaches, the city lights up to provide spectacular reflections, which only get better after dusk—the sunset is just the beginning. Now in 2014, we’re pleased to announce the latest addition to this exceptional panoramic setting with this new venue.”

Even Mayor Faulconer was on hand for the groundbreaking ceremonies, offering support for one of San Diego's most prolific restaurant groups. Over the past 33 years, David and Lesley Cohn have brought dining to a new level as the premier hospitality collective in San Diego. Beginning with one small diner in 1982, Cohn Restaurant Group now owns and operates 22 restaurants within the San Diego area and two locations in Maui.
