Over 3,000 attendees will enjoy Phil’s BBQ and watch the Padres go to bat at the seventh annual Phil’s Big BBQ at the Ballpark on Sunday, June 28 when San Diego takes on the Arizona Diamonbacks. Organized by Phil’s BBQ and Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, Phil’s Big BBQ at the Ballpark is one of Southern California’s largest tailgate parties, complete with live music, a Kid Ventures Kid Zone, a beer garden sponsored by Karl Strauss and Ballast Point breweries and more. Operation Bigs was launched in 2004 to meet the increasing demand for Big Brothers and Big Sisters from Camp Pendleton families. Since its inception, Operation Bigs has served more than 1,400 Navy and Marine Corps children. The program operates at eight schools in four communities around San Diego County, including Camp Pendleton, Point Loma, Coronado and Murphy Canyon. This year, it expanded service to 100 additional military children throughout San Diego County. Operation Bigs enrolls military dependents between the ages of 7-17 at no cost to families.
“To me, it’s essential to give back and say thanks to the loyal customers and members of the San Diego community who have contributed to our success. I strongly believe in the support of local families, and especially military families who sacrifice so much for the greater good of our country,” said Phil Pace, owner of Phil’s BBQ.
Tickets for Phil's Big BBQ at the Ballpark can be purchased at any of the Phil’s BBQ locations, or online. For $25, guests will enjoy Phil’s ribs and chicken plus two sides, a non-alcoholic beverage, a blended beverage from Dlush and a ticket to the 1:10pm Padres vs. Diamondbacks game. VIP Field Pavilion tickets located in the section featured on the jumbotron with the San Diego Friar are also available for $50, which include two 12-ounce beers and preferential line and seating treatment at the tailgate. Season ticket holders can purchase a ‘meal only’ ticket for $20, or a ‘meal only’ VIP ticket for $45. The tailgate takes place from 11am-1pm prior to the game at Petco Park's North Tailgate Park on 14th & K Streets.
One hundred percent of ticket sales go directly to support Operation Bigs, a one-to-one mentoring program that provides an extra layer of support to children and families with an active duty military parent. In 2014, Phil's Big BBQ at the Ballpark raised a record $75,000. Phil’s goal is to raise $100,000 for the charity this year.
