June 19, 2016

70 is the new 21! The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a free-to-attend party open to the public on Friday, July 1, from 6 to 10pm, offering party-goers 3 venues of themed celebrations within the historic North Park hotel.

The Lafayette is opening to the public and offering three venues of party pleasure. In The City Within A City in The Conservatory room, guests will be transported back to the days when the hotel had over 20 different shops, stores, and services. Visit The Home Away From Home - a cocktail lounge in the Mississippi Ballroom serving Dirty Shirley Temples & Rum N' Roy with a 1950s-themed USO Show. At The Soda Jerk, enjoy a retro style soda fountain and diner offering your favorite old-time eats and treats like old-fashioned sodas, burgers, beers, root beer floats and more. Musical entertainment provided by Euphoria Brass Band, The Rollers Beatles tribute band, and Sacha Boutros + guests, and a portion of the proceeds will help support the USO.

Guests also have the chance to become immortalized as part of the hotel's history by purchasing a commemorative tile, which will be built into the hotel as a unique display. The Lafayette is also building a time capsule to commemorate the occasion, which will be displayed inside the hotel for 30 years until it is opened on the 100th anniversary. Items submitted must be smaller than a little tissue box or they can be paper items like photos, letters, posters, etc. All registered event guests will be contacted prior to July 1st, 2046 to remind them of the Time Capsule's opening party. The 70th Anniversary party is a free event welcome to guests of all ages and retro 40s, 50s & 60s attire is encouraged.
