The intent of the Sabor de Baja is to promote gastronomy and tourism between the U.S. and Baja. Each attendee will be able to taste a pairing of the chefs creations together with the wine or beer producers. There are two main awards given that night - the first is decided by a panel of distinguished judges and the second is called the “People’s Choice” which is decided by popular voting from every attendee who submits a ballot. Judges for this year's Sabor de Baja include Diego Hernandez (Chef from World renown Corazon de Tierra), Claudia Sandoval (winner of Masterchef season 6), Chef Najat Kaanache - who has worked in many great restaurants (French Laundry, Alinea, Noma, El Bulli), and Erica Santana, who is a sommelier and is the bar association president in Tijuana.
Tickets to Sabor de Baja are $70 and include tasting of dishes, wines and beer, as well as a commemorative wine glass. Participating restaurants include Mi Casa Supper Club, El Cielo, Sanvil Ensenada, Caesar's Tijuana, Brasa de Valle, Malva, Finca Altozano, Mison 19, Corazon de Tierra (named one of the 50 best restaurants in the world) and many others.
