Newtopia Cyder To Grand Open In Scripps Ranch On April 1

March 30, 2017

Grand opening in the Carroll Canyon area of Scripps Ranch on April 1 is San Diego's first official cider brewery - Newtopia Cyder, a small-batch brewery, tasting room, patio garden and event center in East County.

Newtopia Cyder owners Rusty Figgens and Rick Moreno both have experience as vinters, ciderists and distillers with histories in both the wine and distilling industries. Moreno is also a co-owner of the Seattle location of popular craft beer bar Toronado. At Newtopia, the duo are infusing herbs, spices and botanicals into their ciders, which are all made from West Coast-sourced apples. Their current ciders include a funky Wyld Cyder made with marionberry, an IPA-style dry hopped cider, a semi-sweet cider with elderberry and eucalyptus, and a Belgian saison cider with cardamom, pineapple and Belgian spice. The company is currently pouring a total of nine ciders, available for onsite consumption or for takeaway in growlers.

Newtopia Cyder, which name pays homage to Sir Isaac Newton, has been operating its 6,000 square-foot state-of-the-art cellar farm, showcase taproom, retail merchandise shop, patio garden, and private event space in Scripps Ranch since the beginning of the year, but they'll host a grand opening party on April 1. The party begins at 10am and continues through the night until 10pm, offering special taster glasses for the first 500 cider enthusiasts who will receive a commemorative tulip glass and $1 dollar 3oz pours from 11am - 4pm. This family friendly event will have live music and various food trucks throughout the day and pets are not permitted due to the crowds.

Newtopia Cyder is located at 10045 Carroll Canyon Road Suite A in Scripps Ranch and will host frequent food trucks during business hours. For more information, visit drinknewtopia.com.
