San Diego Cake Pop Shop To Open Brick-And-Mortar Location In North Park

August 7, 2017

Heading into the space at 4594 30th Street in North Park that last housed Ceviche House is the first brick-and-mortar location for popular San Diego farmers market vendor The Cake Pop Shop.

San Diego Cake Pop Shop is a wholly woman owned and operated bakery that was started by Laura Dorsey, who began her endeavor by attending the San Diego Farmers Market Vendor 101 class. In the past three years since launching, The Cake Pop Shop has sold its baked goods at the North Park Thursday Market and is a mainstay at the Little Italy Mercato.

The Cake Pop Shop specializes in creative and customizable cake pops, as well as many other desserts like cookies, cupcakes, brownies, macaroons, and cakes. The bakery also offers a vegan and gluten free dessert line that can be found in several restaurants and hotels such as Native Foods Cafe and the Hard Rock Hotel. The Cake Pop Show will continue to do custom orders in which customers can preorder on the website and then pick up from our store. The company also offers delivery of their desserts.

"It all started when I began teaching kindergarten a few years back in the Midwest," explained owner Laura Dorsey. "A parent of a student knew I had a passion for baking and brought me The Bakerella Cake Pop Cook Book. From then on I was hooked! I started baking and decorating cake pops to match every holiday and classroom unit. It wasn't until I started receiving lots of encouragement from my family and friends to make a business out of my newly found passion."

The new North Park brick-and-mortar location is moving into the 700 square-foot space left dormant by Ceviche House, which is in the process of moving into a larger location in San Diego's Old Town. The eatery will serve cake pops, cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, as well as tea and other beverages. Patrons will even be able to come in and create their own custom pops on the spot. There will also be dog-friendly outdoor seating and pooch pops for the dog-loving customers too.

The San Diego Cake Pop Shop is anticipated to open by mid-September and will continue to operate a stand at the weekly Little Italy Mercato Saturday Farmers Market. For more information, visit sdcakepopshop.com.
