Our Top 7 Event Picks For The 9th Annual San Diego Beer Week

October 24, 2017

It's almost Beer Week in America's Finest Craft Beer City! The San Diego Brewer Guilds' 10-day event starts on Friday, November 3 and continues through Sunday, November 12, consisting of more than 500 beer-centric events held at locations around the county. Here we list our top 7 picks for events to attend during the 2017 incarnation of San Diego Beer Week.

Of course, the VIP Brewer Takeover, the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival, and The Beer Garden at The Lodge at Torrey Pines are signature San Diego Beer Week events that are a must for any true craft beer fan, but there are also so many lesser- hyped events that should not be missed. Below are our top 7 picks from this year's lengthy list.

1. Collabapalooza at Observatory North Park (Saturday, Nov 11) - To celebrate the camaraderie between San Diego's local craft brewers, the OG of local breweries Karl Strauss Brewing Company has rallied together more than 30 independent local breweries to throw an epic party in the parking lot behind the North Park Observatory, featuring one-off collaboration beers and rare releases from participating breweries. Tickets are $40 for GA and $55 for VIP.

2. 4th Annual Brews, Views and Chews at Tom Ham's Lighthouse (Monday, Nov 6) - This annual event has become a favorite, as it showcases some of the city's best beer paired with delicious bites from local restaurants, all in an absolutely beautiful waterfront setting. Tickets are $45 and include unlimited food & drink, plus live music and games. Promo code SDVILLE saves $5 per ticket.

3. Fishing with the Brewers at Fathom Bistro Bait & Tackle (Monday, Nov 6) - Fathom's only event during beer week is limited to 50 people who get to fish off Shelter Island's mini pier with a bunch of brewers. The $80 ticket includes a fishing pole, bait and tackle, a breakfast taco bar, lunch sausage sandwich, an event t-shirt, and all the beer that one could responsibly drink. There are also prizes given for the most successful fishers.

4. 5th Annual Bikes, Brews & Brats (Saturday, Nov 4) - Saddle up on your 10 speed for this annual ride with Green Flash Brewing Co. The Regal Beagle and Cal Coast Bicycles to celebrate San Diego Beer Week and raise money for the San Diego Mountain Biking Association. Featuring two separate departing times for different level groups, the $55 registration includes a Green Flash beer, an event t-shirt, a bike tune-up from Cal Coast Bicycles, the Urban Mountain Bike ride from Cal Coast Cycles to the Regal Beagle, lunch from the Regal Beagle, 2 raffle tickets for a chance at prizes, and a Green Flash / Alpine tote with goodies.

5. 9th Annual San Diego Beer Week Disc Golf Tournament at Morley Field (Wednesday, Nov 8) - What can be better than a day of beer and disc golf? The $75 registration includes breakfast, an exclusive 9th annual Fling disc, an event t-shirt, lunch from Hamilton's, an 18 hole disc golf tournament with industry insiders, and an after party at Hamilton's will open bar until 3pm.

6. Grilled Cheese & Beer Pairing at Duck Foot Brewing (Tuesday, Nov 7) - My last meal would probably be grilled cheese sandwiches and beer, so this event seems like heaven! Duck Foot Brewing is teaming up with the sandwich dudes at Bread & Cheese Catering for this savory grilled cheese and craft beer pairing event. The $25 ticket gets participants a flight of beers paired with 5 tastings of freshly made gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. Both Gluten Free and Non-GF ticket options are available.

7. Escondido Tamale Festival (Saturday, Nov 11) - This free-to-attend event is a celebration of tamales, Latin food, and craft beer that have become iconic staples of California's culture. Taking place at Grape Day Park in  Escondido, this event offers tamales of every type, as well as a variety of other food & craft vendors, as well as a huge craft beer and wine garden, live music, mariachis, a chihuahua costume contest, a car show, a kids area, and so much more. Although admission is free, there are tickets available that include food and drink.
