After two years of serving handmade pasta and Venetian-inspired Italian cuisine to San Diego, La Pastaia has announced it is closing its doors.
Located at 3055 Clairemont Drive, the space previously housed Farmer’s Table before being transformed into La Pastaia by Italian-born owners Priscilla Scardina and Maria Lo Cascio. The duo, both originally from Sicily, brought their culinary traditions and design sensibilities to the project, which officially opened in June 2023. The Bay Park restaurant held its final service on Saturday, August 23, marking the end of a brief but memorable run.
Meaning "The Pasta Lady" in Italian, La Pastaia quickly became known for its handmade pastas, Neapolitan-style pizzas, and Italian entrees. Scardina, who learned pasta-making from her mother at just four years old, built a menu that paid homage to her roots with dishes like mafalde al barca and spigola with champagne emulsion. The restaurant also gained attention for playful specials named after celebrities, while Lo Cascio oversaw the dining room and infused the space with Venetian-inspired design touches reminiscent of her family’s eateries in Sicily.
In a heartfelt farewell shared on social media, the La Pastaia team thanked guests for turning their restaurant "into more than just a restaurant - you made it a home.”"They invited patrons to join them for a final dinner to celebrate the journey, raise a glass, and share one last plate of pasta together.
