Cohn Restaurant Group Introduces New Pizza, Salad & Rock N' Roll Concept to Oceanside | ZIGZAG Pizza Pie To Cater To Growing Fast-Casual Market

November 12, 2013

The Cohn Restaurant Group is pleased to announce ZIGZAG Pizza Pie, an all-new, quick-service restaurant in Oceanside. Located on the same block as their popular beachfront restaurant, 333 Pacific, ZIGZAG seats 60, and returns the group back to its original roots in fast-casual dining. The Cohn Restaurant Group first debuted in 1982 with Rory’s, a ‘50s style hamburger and hot dog joint located on Mission Gorge. Now, more than 30 years and 15 restaurants later, having developed outstanding chef-driven and fine dining concepts throughout the Southern California area, they’re re-joining the fast-causal market, adding to their diverse roster of award-winning venues.

“We started out in restaurants in San Diego when it was just Lesley and myself, opening the doors to Rory’s in the early ‘80s. Now, we’re ecstatic to come full circle and return to the quick-service market that helped us launch the restaurant group into what it is today,” says David Cohn. “We’ve been interested in getting back into this area of the industry for some time, but we had to search for a good fit and the right location. We’re confident that Oceanside will fully embrace the fun and laid-back atmosphere of ZIGZAG, here in the heart of this beach community.”

In a nod to Oceanside’s rich history as a surfing mecca, guests will notice a stream of vintage surf photos alongside high definition menu panels. The rock n’ roll vibe adds a casual feel to the industrial modern space, which is located at 333 North Myers St.

The simple menu (copied below), overseen by 333 Pacific’s Executive Chef Brian Hyre adds to the approachability of the concept. Highlights include a walk-up pizza bar where guests are able to craft individual pies using a wide range of ingredients, or they can choose from a list of nine specialty pies including the standard “Number One Hit” (mozzarella, fresh garlic, fresh basil and tomato sauce) and the less traditional “White Album” (blackened shrimp, spinach, caramelized onions, slivered almonds, garlic and secret five cheese sauce).

Another main component of the ZIGZAG menu is an array of fresh signature salads.  These six dishes include a Kale Caesar Rocks (kale, parmesan cheese, garlic croutons, cracked black pepper and Caesar dressing) and the Hotel California (iceberg lettuce, chopped apple, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, carrots, dried cranberries, almonds, hemp seed and acai yogurt vinaigrette) among other options.

ZIGZAG also boasts an impressive beverage selection, with more than 100 bottled beers and craft brews available, 50 different wines and dozens of non-alcoholic options including nostalgic bottle sodas—all of which can be enjoyed on the premise or taken to-go.
