La Jolla's NINE-TEN Restaurant Unveils Interior Makeover

November 16, 2017

To compliment an amazing menu from the uber-talented Executive Chef Jason Kniff, the highly-touted NINE-TEN Restaurant at La Jolla's Grande Colonial Hotel has recently completed a $300,000 interior redesign by San Diego-based Robinson Brown Design, including the revitalization of the dining room and bar, and an updated sidewalk patio dining area and ocean-view terrace.

"We went to great lengths to create a modern vibe while keeping the restaurant’s existing upscale mood," said Terrence Underwood, general manager. "The contemporary design infuses a classic ambiance and a refined, contemporary sophistication, complementing NINE-TEN’s reputation as a culinary destination."

The extensive project included a complete upgrate of the restaurant's entire main dining room, with the additions of a refreshing color scheme with infusions of emerald green and light wood, while keeping with the restaurant’s existing stone tiled floor.  The wood cladding throughout the room was resurfaced, changing the dark mahogany tones to a much lighter, aged-oak scheme. New paint and wall coverings also lighten up the dining room with a more modern vibe. In addition, all dining room chairs and tables were replaced. Energy efficient LED lighting graces the room along with four custom-designed chandeliers replete with a high-tech dimmer control system for intimacy. Three more intimate, crescent-shaped booths were also added. The new focal point of the room is the vibrant and locally inspired ocean and fauna wall panorama created by local, renowned artist, Dana Montlack, alluding to the restaurant’s iconic location at La Jolla Cove.

"We have always placed a high value on offering our guests the best, most exclusive experience possible," added Underwood. "This is a natural evolution of our already outstanding restaurant."

New tables and bar stools were also added to the elegant and expansive bar area, with the addition of new lighting and eye-pleasing local art. The previous dark mahogany cladding has been replaced with a lighter oak scheme as in the dining room. At the bar itself, new stone surfaces were added, as well as new paint and wall coverings.  The sidewalk patio, facing lively Prospect Street, and the Grande Terrace, with views of the Pacific Ocean, also received substantial improvements for those seeking an al fresco dining option.

Led by award-winning chef Jason Knibb, NINE-TEN Restaurant offers a sophisticated menu of evolving California Cuisine featuring the best of the harvest from local artisan farmers where produce is selected daily for the restaurant’s seasonal menus. Special prix fixe menus are available nightly and feature matching wines from an extensive cellar.
