After less than 9 months in business, the Napa Valley-inspired Route 29 bar & restaurant has ended its run in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. The owner will revamp the concept to become meat-focused The Butchers Cut by Greystone.
Last year, San Diego serial restarateur Vincenzo Loverso took over the space that last housed Chianti in the historic Gaslamp Quarter and opened Route 29. The farm-to-table concept hoped to encapsulate the essence of California's wine country but it fell flat with the restaurant closing after a mere 8 months in business. Loverso - who is the owner of San Diego Dining Group, which operates Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse and Osteria Panevino, and is also a partner in Farmer's Table - will revamp the concept to become The Butchers Cut Steakhouse.
Butchers Cut Steakhouse will offer a more casual feel than Loverso's adjacent Greystone. While it may feel like meat overkill, Butchers will have its own identity and style and serve a meat-and-potatoes menu with high-end cuts of beef and local seafood. The interior of the space will receive a slight renovation for a quick turnaround.
