InterContinental San Diego Hotel To Launch Layover 4th Floor Rooftop Bar & Lounge

September 5, 2019

Downtown San Diego's bayside InterContinental Hotel will unveil its newest food and beverage concept this weekend. Located on the hotel’s fourth floor rooftop, Layover will offer guests and locals alike an outdoor lounge experience with first-class seats to remarkable elevated views of air, sea, and the downtown skyline.

Guests of Layover will be able to dine and drink at the sleek all-white 15-seat bar or lounge comfortably in Adirondack chairs and plush outdoor furnishings surrounding several fire pits. The name "Layover" is a nod to the four airfields, past and present, visible from the venue - the USS Midway flight deck, the US Coast Guard air station, US North Island Naval station and San Diego airport - with the space allowing guests to catch the picturesque sights of aircrafts taking off in the distance.
"When your flight is landing in San Diego, you’re briefly greeted by an incredible view: the city skyline soaring behind you and the shimmering bay out in front." said Food & Beverage Director Jeff Josenhans. "Layover captures that moment and feeling, embodying it in a physical space where you can stop in for a drink before dinner or linger with friends on the weekend."

As a casual beverage-centric concept, Layover’s drink menu will consist of canned cocktails, wine, and beer plus slushy versions of classic, aero-inspired cocktails including the Paper Plane (Bulleit bourbon, Aperol, vermouth, lemon) and Aviation (Aviation gin, violet liqueur, maraschino, lemon). An approachable food menu will include shareable bites prepared by Executive Chef Amy DiBiase and include dishes such as BBQ Gonestraw Farms duck steamed buns and local flounder ceviche with coconut.

Starting on September 7, Layover will be open daily from 11am to 8pm and will offer a series of rooftop wellness events throughout September and October. The lounge’s opening comes just one year after the debut of the InterContinental San Diego’s signature restaurant Vistal. Other dining and drinking concepts coming to the InterContinental property in the near future include dessert shop Gelato & Friends opening later this fall, The Reading Club 19th floor cocktail lounge by Consortium Holdings (Born & Raised, Ironside, Craft & Commerce), and a tasting room from Vista's Latitude 33 Brewing.
