Gaslamp Lumpia Factory Will Bring Filipino Bar Bites To Downtown San Diego

January 26, 2022

Aiming to become San Diego's only Filipino pulutan (finger foods) bar, Gaslamp Lumpia Factory will open later this year with a menu centered around the crispy spring rolls that are one of the most popular dishes of the Philippines.

Gaslamp Lumpia Factory is the passion project of native San Diegan Donna Pili, who has over three decades of experience as a controller, senior accountant and lead finance professional. For Gaslamp Lumpia Factory, Donna has teamed up with Craig Dalrymple, who will be the general managing partner of the project. Dalrymple has been in the restaurant industry for over 30 years, most recently operating Lumberyard Tavern & Grill in Encinitas for 10 years. Together as Co-Owners, Mr. Dalrymple and Ms. Pili will combine their "front of the house" and "back of the house" expertise for Gaslamp Lumpia Factory.

"Welcome to the Gaslamp Lumpia Factory!", wrote co-founder Donna Pili. "As the only Pulutan Bar in San Diego, we are excited and honored to introduce Filipino-inspired cuisine with a Polynesian influence to the downtown area. The focus will be on one of the most popular dishes of the Philippines - LUMPIA! These Filipino spring rolls are perfect delicacies to either enjoy with us in house or on the go, which is perfect for the pedestrian friendly streets of the Gaslamp. As the largest Filipino/Pacific Islander Population in the Continental U.S, California is a state of growing diversity. We believe now is the time to catch the wave to showcase a rich culture to a city which is on the verge of an inevitable industrial boom."

Gaslamp Lumpia Factory is in the process of installing in the space that last housed The Poke Co. on F Street in downtown San Diego. Expect a nautical steampunk-inspired design with a menu of Filipino-American comfort foods, including several lumpia styles, pan de sal sandwiches, brined wings, pork belly sisig, pancit noodles, spicy garlic prawns and more, as well as beer, wine and specialty cocktails.

Gaslamp Lumpia Factory aims to open on Saturday, May 14, in honor of Pili's late-father Aquilino S. Pili Jr.'s birthday. He was a a retired Navy Veteran who was stationed in San Diego before retiring in the Philippines. The restaurant is located at 423 F Street in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter.
