Happy Does Bar & Restaurant To Replace Gaslamp Strip Club In Downtown San Diego

January 21, 2022

San Diego's Good Time Design hospitality company has taken over the old Gaslamp Strip Club space for the opening of Happy Does, a country-inspired American bar & restaurant.

Founded in 2006 by local businessman and hospitality entrepreneur Ty Hauter, Good Time Design started with the openings of The Double Deuce, The Tipsy Crow and the original Whiskey Girl, which have since all been sold. The hospitality company currently operates around a dozen venues located in San Diego, CA and Nashville, TN, including Cerveza Jacks in San Diego's Gaslamp, The Blind Burro, Moonshine Flats, Lucky's Lunch Counter, The Presley in Liberty Station, and Moonshine Beach in Pacific Beach. Good Time Design also recently doubled down in Liberty Station by taking over the 8,800 square-foot unit that last housed the public relations-fueled El Jardin for the opening of Go Go Amigo, a modern Mexican restaurant and bar expected to open in the coming month. In addition, longtime Good Time Design partner Sean Green and Ty Hauter have acquired Patrick's Gaslamp Pub and are planning a forthcoming project in that space as well.

The former Gaslamp Strip Club space was previously in the process of being rebranded by longtime operator Cohn Restaurant Group to become a new concept dubbed Classic Blue, but that project was abandoned midway through development due to the pandemic. The company behind Pendry San Diego has plans to build another luxury hotel in San Diego's Gaslamp in the spaces where Dick's Last Resort and Gaslamp Strip Club sat, so its developer The Robert Green Company has leased the former Strip Club space to Good Time Design until construction is set to begin in a couple years.

Good Time Design will open a new concept in the Gaslamp called Happy Does, which will offer a classic Americana vibe with a menu of simple American fare with a country influence to be paired with cold beers & shots. GTD's corporate chef Todd Nash and resident pit master Ivan Munoz to develop the dishes.

Happy Does is anticipated to open by late spring/early summer at 340 Fifth Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. For more information about Good Time Design, visit goodtimedesignsd.com.
