San Diego's 10-year-old Best Pizza & Brew restaurants are continuing to expand with several stands recently launched in SDSU's Snapdragon Stadium and an incoming full-service eatery opening later this year in North County.
John Freis, Charlie Muirhead, Kelly Bowie and Angela Montion are the original owners of Pizza Nova, which began in San Diego's Point Loma in 1990, and founded Best Pizza & Brew in Mira Mesa in 2013. Childhood friends Joey Freis and Mitchell Millar have since purchased and taken over the Best Pizza brand. The company has since opened additional San Diego branches in Cardiff, Carmel Mountain, Oceanside, and Vista.
"For Best Pizza & Brew, we wanted to provide the great food that Pizza Nova offered but in a more affordable way and casual setting, selling by the slice with a broader menu than the typical pizza by the slice restaurant," explained owner Joey Freis. "We purchase some of the highest quality ingredients when it comes to making our food including Grande Cheese and Waygu beef for our burgers, which we have been told are some of the best in town. We also pride our selves on making a lot of our ingredients fresh daily, including our dough, all of our dressings and even our croutons. We have 30 beers on draft and our newer locations offer a full bar. We are really into actions sports and always have them playing in all of our restaurants to make our restaurants a great place to hang out!"
The newest area branch of Best Pizza & Brew will soon install in the standalone building that was previously Sickel's Fabrics in San Diego's North County of Escondido. The 150 seat restaurant will have an industrial feel with large roll up garage doors, several fire pits, an indoor/outdoor bar, and a 2,100 square-foot patio. Like other locations, the menu will offer appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza by the slice and whole pie, and desserts. The Escondido location will offer have a full bar.
