Sushi Maru Bringing 20-Course Omakase Experience To San Diego's Cortez Hill

April 18, 2024

Opening later this month in downtown San Diego is Sushi Maru, a 20-course, omakase-exclusive Japanese restaurant from the longtime head chef of Gaslamp Quarter hotspot Taka Sushi.

Chef Tsuyoshi Maruyama has 35 years of Japanese dining experience, including working for over two decades as chief sushi chef at Taka Sushi restaurant in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. He has now branched off on his own to open Sushi Maru on the base floor of the Stanza Apartment building near Little Italy and Cortez Hill.
Sushi Maru will exclusively serve a chef's choice omakase menu, which will consist of 20 courses that will change with the seasons. Expect the dishes to range from warm items, to nigiri and roll, and soup and entrees. The experience will start at the price of $180 per person, not including beverages and tax, and will last approximately two hours. From the bar, the restaurant will serve sake, wine, and champagne, as well as shochu, beer, and other non-alcohol beverages.

Sushi Maru will soft open on April 24 at 310 A Street, Suite 2, on the border of San Diego's Little Italy and Cortez Hill neighborhoods. For more information and to make reservations, visit marusushisd.com.
