The blockbuster film will play in full on the big screen while the orchestra performs its original score and soundtrack hits live, creating an immersive experience for Barbie fans of all ages. In a heartwarming twist, San Diego Symphony musicians and married couple Gregory and Courtney Cohen will be joined by their 9-year-old daughter, Evelyn, making her conducting debut. Evelyn will take the podium for Billie Eilish’s Oscar-winning ballad What Was I Made For?, marking a milestone moment for the young music lover.
Evelyn’s passion for performance began early, with years of violin studies and current Irish fiddle lessons under Symphony violist Wanda Law. She’s also a dedicated competitive Irish dancer. Her parents, Courtney (Principal Librarian) and Gregory Cohen (Principal Percussion), say they are "thrilled to share the stage with her and can’t wait to see her shine." Evelyn herself calls the opportunity "a dream come true," adding that she's been a Barbie fan for as long as she can remember.
The event will celebrate all things Barbie, with guests encouraged to wear their brightest pink or dress as favorite characters from the film. Barbie: The Movie in Concert promises to be both a cinematic spectacle and a sentimental night for the San Diego Symphony family.
