La Corriente Mexican Seafood Expanding To Coronado With Second San Diego Location

La Corriente Cocina del Pacifico, the acclaimed Mexican seafood restaurant group behind one of La Jolla’s most popular recent openings, is set to unveil a second San Diego location later this year in Coronado.

Founded in Tijuana in 2014 as La Corriente Cevichería + Nais, the upscale mariscos concept has grown to include locations in Mexicali, Monterrey, Mazatlán, and Mexico City. Known for its refined take on Pacific Ocean seafood, La Corriente is celebrated for signature dishes like its famed red snapper tostada, along with an array of ceviches, aguachiles, oysters, fried seafood, and tacos. The company expanded into the U.S. for the first time in early 2024, debuting in La Jolla to steady crowds and strong reviews.

Co-founders Diego González and Karim Reza have described their mission as bringing the same quality and presentation found in their Mexico locations across the border, with a focus on fresh, flavorful dishes and a lively coastal atmosphere. In addition to its signature plates, La Corriente offers beer, wine, and Mexican-inspired micheladas and Bloody Marys, with the possibility of adding a full liquor license in the future.

Guests at La Corriente can expect a wide variety of coastal Mexican seafood specialties, beginning with raw bar favorites like the signature Red Snapper Tostada topped with thinly sliced raw fish, red onion, avocado, and aioli, as well as a range of ceviches, oysters by the half or dozen, and shrimp aguachile. The taco selection features creative options such as the Ensenada-style fish or shrimp taco, buttery Chorriada shrimp taco, and a soft shell crab taco with guajillo pepper tempura. Heartier plates include grilled octopus Zarandeado style, the Tijuana burrito stuffed with chargrilled rib eye, and house specialties like the artichoke and jocoque tostada. Guests can pair their meal with La Corriente’s popular Mexican Bloody Mary or a chilled michelada, making for a full Baja-inspired dining experience.

The new Coronado location will take over the ground floor of the Coronado Historical Association Museum at 1100 Orange Avenue, in the space that most recently housed L’Orangerie French restaurant. The setting places La Corriente just blocks from the beach in one of San Diego County’s most picturesque neighborhoods, bringing its coastal Mexican seafood concept even closer to the water.

La Corriente is anticipated to open in late August 2025 at 1100 Orange Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118. For more information, visit grupolacorriente.com.
