A new branch of Japan-based Round1 Bowling & Arcade is headed to San Diego’s Mission Valley, marking the company’s most central outpost in the county.
According to a recently filed Type-47 full liquor license application, the upcoming venue will bring Round1's signature mix of bowling, arcades, and amusement attractions to the heart of San Diego. The Mission Valley location, opening in a 7,204 square foot space within Westfield Mission Valley Mall, adds to Round1’s growing presence in the region.
The company debuted locally last year with a sprawling venue inside Westfield Plaza Bonita Mall in National City, and a massive three-level branch is under development in the former Nordstrom space at North County Mall in Escondido. Together, the projects reflect Round1's rapid expansion in San Diego County, where it aims to establish itself as a dominant family entertainment brand.
Round1 originated in Japan in the 1980s and has since grown into an international chain with more than 150 locations across Japan and the United States. Its venues typically combine traditional bowling alleys with karaoke rooms, billiards, darts, batting cages, ping pong, roller skating, and extensive Japanese arcade gaming. Many also feature "Spo-Cha," a unique sports challenge complex that allows visitors to try a wide range of activities under a single day-pass admission model.
Like the incoming Escondido branch, the Mission Valley site will also include Yuu Japanese Food Hall, a culinary concept showcasing some of Japan's most acclaimed restaurants and chefs. The hall is expected to feature a curated lineup of stalls serving udon, onigiri, okonomiyaki, karaage, ramen, takoyaki, tonkatsu, Japanese curry, and even Italian-style gelato from an award-winning master. Billed as a "dream team" of Japan’s finest flavors, Yuu brings together iconic shops such as Udon-Dokoro Shigemi, Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku, Takoyaki Do-Raku Wanaka, Curry SOMA, Tonkatsu Narikura, and Ramen Hayato, among others.
The addition of Yuu Food Hall highlights Round1’s strategy of pairing large-scale entertainment with elevated dining, creating a destination for both families and nightlife seekers. With the full liquor license in process, the venue will also offer beer, wine, and spirits alongside its menu of food and non-alcoholic beverages.
While an opening timeline has not yet been announced, the Mission Valley branch will become Round1’s most centrally located hub in San Diego, giving city residents closer access to the entertainment chain without traveling to National City or Escondido.
Round1 Bowling & Arcade and Yuu Japanese Food Hall are planned for 1750 Camino Del Rio North, Unit FSU 10, in San Diego's Mission Valley. For more information, visit round1usa.com.
